Resumo

O turismo é considerado a atividade econômica fundamental para muitas economias em todo o mundo e é a atividade que mais cresce na região do Caribe. Com os mercados em constante mudança, a competitividade dos destinos turísticos é a chave para diferenciar entre uma boa gestão do turismo e uma gestão ineficiente. O índice mais popular internacionalmente e o mais abrangente é preparado pelo Fórum Econômico Mundial, que não inclui Cuba ou vários países da América Central e do Caribe. Este artigo busca justamente aproximar o leitor dos conceitos de competitividade turística, bem como do Índice de Competitividade Turística e da situação dos países centro-americanos e caribenhos nele contidos, utilizando o método dialético como guia na análise teórica da investigação.
